Scrubber-developers FMSI and Clean Marine AS today announced plans of their intention to merge to create a leading global provider of exhaust gas cleaning systems.
The combined entity, which will operate under the name Clean Marine, will provide a fully integrated offering, including OEM expertise, significant capacity, fast production times, project management and global after-sales services.

In January 2019 FMSI became the new name for Feen Marine Scrubbers Inc. A new name, but the same commitment to the highest quality design and manufacture of scrubbers.
New capital and changes in shareholdings have enabled FMSI to enter a new era of considerable expansion and growth. A 40,000 sq.m. state-of-the-art design and manufacturing facility is operational in February 2019. FMSI will be increasing its scrubber system production by five-fold and offering deliveries of new systems from April 2019.

January 1 2020 is the implementation date for a significant reduction in the sulphur content of the fuel oil used by ships. The decision to implement a global sulphur cap of 0.50% mass/mass (m/m) in 2020 was taken by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the regulatory authority for international shipping.
Impact for the Shipping Industry
The IMO estimates that up to 70,000 ships may be affected by the new global IMO sulphur cap in 2020. Switching to low sulphur fuel will add significant cost running vessels. However, installing an SO2 Exhaust Gas Cleaning System will ensure efficient use of HFO and compliance with the new emissions regulations. Vessels will also remain more profitable and retain their current fuelling patterns.
Our Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems deliver an optimal solution for reducing the sulphur content of ship emissions. The “U” type EGCS is designed to comply with IMO resolution MEPC 259 (68) Scheme B. The SO2 reduction efficiency of our scrubbers corresponds to a reduction in fuel sulphur content from 3.50% to 0.1% - exceeding the required level of compliance with the global cap of 0.5%.

Open Loop Scrubber
This is the most cost efficient and the simplest solution suitable for most seagoing vessels. Most vessels spend most of their time at open sea where the emission and consumption is at its peak (maximum) of normal operation.
For vessels sailing most of the time in areas with zero discharge of EGS water. Though the sulphate is a natural content in seawater, however, there are some areas where the regulators restrict water effluent due to particulate matter. The Hybrid system can switch between Open Loop and Closed Loop.
